With this program, two residential facilities were established namely Tanglaw Buhay Center for Victims and Survivors of Trafficking and Akay Kalinga Center for Children in Street Situations. Both facilities are individually providing temporary shelter, education, psychosocial support and care and advocacy work.

In 2006 to present, KKI has been engaging on activities to end abuse, violence and exploitation on children in the communities, specifically extensively working on anti-corporal punishment and the evolving issues of anti-trafficking. Capacity-building with Community-based Paralegals

By: Kenny Ivan Bucoy
Date of News: 2023-06-28

The Katilingban sa Kalambuan Organisation Inc. (KKI) held a two-day Capacity-building with Community-based Paralegals of the five partner Barangays on June 14 and 15, 2023. These Barangays were Barangay Sta. Barbara, Mariki, Canelar, and Recodo and Patalon. The activity aims to educate community-based paralegals on the topic of trafficking in persons and raise their awareness of the issue.
Assistant City Prosecutor Sharon May Sales-Belisario delivered an enlightening discussion on the first day about Republic Act 9208, also referred to as the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, as well as its extended laws, Republic Act 10364 (2012) and Republic Act 11862 (2022). Ms. Stephanie Carredo, the Focal Person of DSWD IX- RRPTP, led a discussion in the afternoon about the Red Flags of Trafficking in Persons, the Referral System for reporting cases, and the complete program of DSWD that ensures proper recovery and reintegration services are provided for trafficked persons. Ms. Carredo's presentation was followed by a question and answer session.
During the second day, PCMS Mal-Meradz B. Lagbas of PNP-Women and Children Protection Center (WCPC)-Mindanao Field Unit led the discussion on Republic Act 11930 of 2022, also known as the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Materials, followed by Dr. Marcelina Carpizo, where she discussed the Philippine Human Rights Standard on Handling Victims and Survivors of Human Trafficking. In addition, the participants participated in a workshop highlighting the various rights a child who has been trafficked is entitled to, which was run in the form of role-play.
Moreover, each partner barangays shared their ways forward to popularize and sustain the campaign in their respective area.
Putting a stop to human trafficking is a group endeavor that requires participation from multiple parties. We will achieve our goals if we cooperate and are all on the same page. And as a result of the training, our community-based paralegals believe they are now prepared to resolve situations involving TIP and OSAEC.
This activity was made possible by the support of Manos Unidas.
